The Legacy of Georges Lenfant
Georges Lenfant established his jewellery workshop in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century, quickly becoming regarded as one of the leading craftsmen of his generation. Born into a family of jewellers and trained in Paris and abroad, he set up his own business around 1900 and was already recognised in professional publications by 1903, before registering his distinctive maker’s mark in 1909.
Situated just a short walk from Place Vendôme and Rue de la Paix, Lenfant’s workshop produced jewellery for some of the most prestigious houses of the era, including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Hermès, Tiffany & Co and Mellerio dits Meller, combining the highest standards of goldsmithing with sophisticated design.
His son Jacques joined the business in 1915 and continued the Lenfant tradition throughout the mid-20th century, expanding the workshop’s repertoire into bold Art Moderne and Art Deco styles and later becoming especially known for masterful gold chain and braid work in the 1950s-70s.
Maison Georges Lenfant’s reputation for elegant, finely crafted jewellery — whether for leading houses or under its own hallmark — endures among collectors today.
Georges L’Enfant Paris: The Goldsmith’s Goldsmith
Operating from his workshop on Rue du Marché-Saint-Honoré, Georges L’Enfant produced exceptional jewellery for the world’s top maisons while also creating pieces under his own name. His intricate craftsmanship — especially his innovative gold weaving techniques — set a standard of excellence few could rival.
Each Georges L’Enfant jewel reflects extraordinary attention to detail, a dedication to traditional techniques, and a refined, unmistakable style.
